Lakeway, Texas

Lake Life at Its Best

Lakeway is truly an outdoorsman’s (and woman’s) paradise. Lakeway’s marinas, golf courses, tennis courts, 100 acres of parkland & trails, and nearly 500 acres of greenbelts, are tucked along the south shore of the 65-mile-long Lake Travis. Numerous parks and attractions surround this area, including Austin Salt Cave and a resort and spa.

While Lakeway began its journey as a small suburb for second homeowners, it’s now one of the top places to live in the area. The Lake Travis Independent School District ranks among the top 25 school districts in Texas, and Lake Travis High School is home to multiple state championship football teams.

In 2019, Lakeway’s population was 15,981 and had grown 37% since 2010. Many of the homes you’ll see in Lakeway are large lake properties or properties on a golf course. Lakeway is approximately 23.3 miles from downtown Austin.

Texas Department of Family and Protective Services

“The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) works with communities to promote safe and healthy families and protect children and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect, and exploitation. We do this through investigations, services and referrals, and prevention programs.

DFPS has five major programs that do this important work:

Adult Protective Services • Protects the elderly and people with disabilities from abuse, neglect, and exploitation through investigations and services.

Child Protective Services • Protects children from abuse and neglect through services, foster care, and adoption.

Child Protective Investigations • Investigates reports of child abuse or neglect to determine if any child in the family has been abused or neglected. If the children aren’t safe, the investigator starts protective services.

Prevention and Early Intervention • Manages community-based programs that prevent juvenile delinquency and child abuse and neglect.

Statewide Intake • Takes reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation from across the state through its Texas Abuse Hotline (1-800-252-5400) and through the website TxAbuseHotline.org 24-hours a day, every day of the year.

Call the Texas Abuse Hotline if you suspect that a child or adult who is elderly or has disabilities is being abused, neglected, or exploited.”

Canyonlands / Mt Lakeway Trail

“The Canyonlands is Lakeway’s most extensive trail network and is comprised of a 20-acre tract at Rough Hollow Cove, a major inlet at Lake Travis.  It is named for the scenic canyon running through it.  The canyon scenery from the overlooks is breathtaking and in late fall, the foliage is spectacular with shades of yellow, gold, brown, orange and red.  Early spring brings a riot of color as the new leaves sprout out on the deciduous trees in the canyon. more…

Hamilton Greenbelt

“Thanks to a generous donation from Jack and Myrtle Hamilton, the Hamilton Greenbelt opened in April 1990.  Several improvements and additions over the years have resulted in a first class trail network.  Thanks to the donation of additional land and funds from Coleman and Mary Smith, an easement from the Lakeway Municipal Utility District and countless hours of volunteer services from Friends of the Parks, the Hamilton Greenbelt trail network, including Smith Greenbelt and Hurst Creek Preserve, now offers several miles of both developed and primitive trails that wander along Hurst and Yaupon creeks. These areas are fabulous places for family outings, walks and jogs or a bike ride. “
