Located on the Edwards Plateau, Hays County is named after John “Jack” C. Hays, a legendary Texas Ranger and one of the most respected Texans of his day. Founded in March, 1848, Hays County’s population has grown from fewer than 500 residents at its inception to an estimated population is 252,646. It continues to be one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas, with the vivacious and thriving city of San Marcos as the county seat. Ideally situated between Austin and San Antonio, the county’s rich history, geographical significance, and natural beauty continues to make Hays County an excellent location to live, work and visit.
