Things to Do in January 2023

A New Year is just around the corner in Central Texas, and whether you’re thinking of forming a new positive habit or routine, or want to find ways to enjoy everything the Austin area has to offer, here’s a few things to consider. Happy New Year!

Get your yearly budget in order
Plan ahead this year and take a few minutes to get your yearly budget done. If you’ve never done one there are many resources online to help.

Start a new workout routine
If it’s been a while since you were regularly active, now is the time to get into some healthy habits. If you’ve been working out regular-ly, maybe it’s time to freshen up your routine. New Year, New You!

Meal prep
Eat better this year by taking control over what you eat on the go. Take the time to learn new healthy recipes and ways of creating meals to-go.

MLK March
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr Day, consider marching in Austin’s famous MLK Day March and celebration.

Cozy up with a good book
Cold weather pairs perfectly with a good book. Pick out something fresh you’ve been wanting to read or even reread an old favorite. You can’t go wrong when it’s chilly outside.

NCAA National Championship game
On January 9th, the NCAA National Championship football game will be played. If you are a sports fan, you won’t want to miss this.

Give back
Start your year on a positive note and volunteer at a local charity. Volunteering tends to die down after the holidays. Let’s make 2023 the best year yet, by giving back to our communities each month, not just at certain times of the year.

Free Week – Around Austin
The first week of January might be the best time for a music fan to visit Austin. Why? Hundreds of Austin bands participate in this annual event encompassing multiple venues all over Austin.

Go ice skating
Stay in the winter spirit and do something most Texans don’t regu-larly go ice skating. Instead, get the family out for a day of fun.

3M Half Marathon – Downtown Austin
3M Half boasts one of the fastest half marathon courses in the country. Enjoy a mostly downhill course that takes you past some of Austin’s finest locations and finishes downtown near the Texas State Capitol.

Visit a Local Distillery, Winery, or Brewery
Now and again, we have some warm days in January. It’s the perfect time to head out to a distillery, brewery, or winery in Dripping Springs.

Prep for the cold
Check your winter weather preparedness by examining your house and needs just in case of a wild winter, as we have in recent years. Then, if the power goes out, you will be ready.

Learn to make mocktails
Try one of these delicious mocktail recipes if you are doing dry January.

Support the Stars
Winter is here and it’s a great time to go see the Stars play in Cedar Park.
