Austin, Texas the Live Music Capital of the World

Austin is located in the heart of Central Texas. Although centrally located, Austin is also pretty far South compared to other cities in the US; 225 miles from the Mexican border to be exact. San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas are all within 200 miles of Austin. Austin is also three and a half hours from the coast to either Galveston Island near Houston or the Padre Island National Seashore near Corpus Christi, and don’t forget South Padre Island a few hours further south.

Austin is truly a city with heart and soul. It brims with both southern tradition and quirky eccentricity. The area is well known for the annual South by Southwest Festival – also known as South by or SXSW – or maybe you’ve heard of ACL? Another well-known festival with great food and great music. The area is politically charged and culturally rich. It’s a high-tech big city, meets college town, meets the laid-back beauty of the Texas Hill Country. (Be sure to check out our Festivals page so you’ll know what’s happening here.)

Many companies either call Austin home or are relocating to the Lone Star State. Companies like Telsaand Oracle are two of the latest to announce a move or expansion into the area. That comes on the heels of Apple building a new $1 billion, 3-million-square-foot campus north of Austin. (The campus will initially house 5,000 employees, with the capacity to grow to 15,000, and is expected to open in 2022.) According to the Austin Chamber of Commerce, you’ll also see companies like AMD, Charles Schwab, Cirrus Logic, Dell (of course), Facebook, VRBO, and Whole Foods here to name a few.

All business aside, Austin is a city far from ordinary, it’s the kind of place where you can check your worries at the city limits sign, trade-in your business attire for something a bit more casual and prepare for experiences you’ll find only in Austin.
